When the Word of God comes near, all else needs to stop, so we may for that moment approach eternity. And that takes us to the second half of this sermon and the invitation offered to us by the season of Lent. Lent gives us the opportunity to take the time to engage in a spiritual inventory. Where in our lives is there pain that requires attention? We know where it is “out there.” But what needs attention within my soul, that I need to attend to in order to be most open to the love that God requires of me?
